I have started training with a walking club - I swear I am the youngest in the bunch and it isn't easy to keep up! There are 60 year olds that can out -do me!
We did a jump start walk in Surrey on New Years Day...not all the group showed up as it was "only if you wanted to"; not that I wanted to but I figured to put my all or nothing into it! I did the walk then went to work til midnight then back at it the next morning... On the 1st of January I did 6 km...was supposed to have done 5 but some of us got talking, not paying attention and lost the leader... none of us thought of pulling out our map until it was a little late. Oh well, we got more steps in! LOL
On the 2nd of January I dragged myself out of bed at 7am tired and yet excited to start this journey. The whole group showed up by 9 am at ou destination (minus 1 as he had just had eye surgery). We met at the Port Moody Rec Center and walked around the Port Moody shoreline.
Group photo at the start... I am on the far left in the green and black jacket holding paper in my hand... definitely not a fashion statement! Just trying to stay warm! Wanna know something funny? The real tall guy in the back with the "cowboy" hat is my old high school teacher! ROFL
This pic is just me and some gals that were talkin' during the walk. I was kind of in between those going slow and those going fast so the odd time I would "stop" and talk as I was passing them... oh, btw, thats the map of our walk in my hand all wrapped in a plastic sheet so I can read it in the rain.
The turn around for half marathon training was at 7km but I decided I had gone that far I may as well go the rest of the way.
The Pier...at Rocky point Park...The last leg of the journey, only 2 km left out of 10.5 Km.. we stopped for a photo, a drink and enjoyed the scenery... not too long tho otherwise we would start to cool down and get cold.
I haven't decided if I am going to train for the full or half marathon.. its sticking in my head that I will be WAY over my head doing the full. I signed up for the group with half marathon in mind... I may go the distance with the full but soon the distances will get very long.. you see its the training during the week that I am not sure about. Trying to find someone to go with me is the tough part cause its not safe to go alone... I need to get a battery for my Garmin GPS as my pedometer is not dependable.
Today I walked to my dr's appt and back - that was a 7 km walk... I still have another walk to put in this week before Saturdays group walk at Deas Park in Delta... one thing about all this walking I am sure getting a lot of sight seeing of the lower mainland in!
